Therefore, it has no boundaries." A human boy, Bastian, explores Fanstasia through an old ornately-bound book called The Neverending Story. It is a vast, beautiful world - a magical realm inside peoples minds and imaginations - that is being destroyed by The Nothing, a force of negative energy. The ruler of Fantasia, who is deathly ill, sends a young warrior, Atreyu, on a quest to save Fantasia. As Bastian reads about Atreyu's adventures, he becomes a part of the story, and learns that only he has the power to save Fantasia from destruction.
